About the name. YONA (ᏲᎾ) is the Cherokee word for bear. In the old Cherokee telling, the first bears were a clan who chose the mountains, where there was always enough, and who promised the people they left behind that they would provide for them always. The bear lives on its own ground, prepares in season for the season coming, and provides without running out. That is the work: helping sovereign Nations build Economies that stand on their own ground and provide for their people, always.
